Meeting other amputees (May 2015)

My husband and I decided early on that we wanted to prepare Sydney as much as possible by showing her videos of kids with their prosthesis on while doing various activities, as well as showing her videos of kids with their stump. I wanted her to have a pretty clear idea of what her leg was going to look like. We obviously haven't shown her anything intense, just videos such as this one of Jackson Stone showing people how he puts on his prosthetic.

 A few days ago I talked with someone (basically a child development/psychologist.. Not sure her exact title) at Shriners who gave me some recommendations on how to best help Sydney cope with everything that is coming.

Pre-amputation Interview Video (May 2015)

We've been wanting to do an interview with Sydney for a while now to get her thoughts about the amputation and prosthetic foot. We finally did it today after church. She's pretty optimistic and positive about the whole thing. Of course she will have her ups and downs and you never know what complications may lie ahead but we feel good knowing that she's been pretty involved in this whole process and feels good about the decision we've made as well.
